The role of sports in promoting good mental health

Sports is something that most people cannot imagine their everyday living without. The notion of sport had evolved in ancient times before the Olympic games in Greece started to take place. After the second industrial revolution, sport has become an extensively popular and admired subject in almost any school. As a means of entertainment and, at the same time, a way to relieve tension and move one’s energy in a good direction, the sport has always been associated with individual growth and physical health maintenance. These days, schoolers, students, adults, and older people engage themselves in a variety of sports activities for different reasons. But regardless of the purpose, all of them definitely achieve one target – better mental health. Indeed, performing sports activities regularly contributes to improved mental health by reducing stress, promoting a team spirit and social inclusion, and preventing depression.

Engaging oneself in a sports activity is positively correlated with better social inclusion. In essence, sport is a team activity, which means that doing a particular kind of sports implies interaction with other individuals. Building social contacts while engaging in sports is exciting and easy: finding common ground with teammates or a sports partner is not complicated since you already share at least one significant interest. A recent study by British scientists suggests that individuals who did sports during their school years show higher social inclusion levels and can easily make new acquaintances in adult age. This means that sport plays a critical role in defining an individual’s future behavior in socializing with other people. And since sports promotes an ability to better engage in social groups and  make new acquaintances, it also contributes to an individual’s mental health. As long as humans live in a community and need communication for a healthy and happy living, sports is the key.

Regular physical activity does not let stress accumulate and negatively influence one’s mental health. The reason why people experience less stress if they give preference to working out on a regular basis is endorphins production. Endorphins are particular neurotransmitters that a human brain produces as a result of physical activity. Neurotransmitters promote good feelings and make it harder for various stress factors to irritate oneself. Additionally, endorphins produced by a body while performing a sports activity promote a better quality of sleep. The latter, in its turn, leads to significant stress reduction as well. Apart from a guaranteed stress reduction, sports activities reduce the adverse effects of stress. Hence, one can come to the conclusion that since stress is an inevitable and highly annoying phenomenon, it is critical to seek preventative measures, and sports seems to cope with the issue of stress and constant tension brilliantly. Therefore, a moderate workout contributes to one’s mental health in the long term.

Finally, sport has been proven to be one of the most potent remedies for depression. According to what clinicians claim, depression impacts both mental and physical health way worse than diabetes. Therefore, depression is a condition that needs treatment. However, it is highly possible to prevent depression just by exercising and adding some sport to one’s daily routine. Sports influence the human brain almost in the same way that medical drugs do: it promotes the brain’s better capacity to absorb serotonin. Not less important, sport activities contribute to nerve cell growth and prevent cells in the hippocampus from dying. Besides, physical activity has been found to improve self-esteem, which in turn improves body image and self-perception. Overall, a regular sport activity can not only guarantee depression alleviation but also prevent further disorders that have to do with psyche.

All in all, sports can reasonably be deemed a natural remedy not only against physical but also multiple mental conditions. Just by performing moderate exercises a few times a week, one can make their life go in a different, healthier direction. Performing sports activities can reasonably promote stress-free life since exercising influences endorphins production in the brain. Additionally, a regular sport promotes better social inclusion and facilitates communication with peers. Finally, regular exercises serve as a solution to depression. It is critical to preserve one’s mental health, so working out is something to begin with straightaway.

Club sports.

At a school known nationally for its strong athletic programs, it is easy to forget that not all athletes are superstars. We cheer on our varsity athletes with enthusiasm, while at the same time overlooking those students who compete for the Maroon and Gray before just a handful fans, without scholarship money, but with just as much spirit as any NCAA athlete. Now, when they are improving their records and proving they bleed Minuteman maroon as much as anyone. It is time for the Valley community to recognize the valuable contributions club athletes make to Umass.              .              Whether it's the fault of title IX and its demanding quotas or the football team sucking up every single last dollar the athletic department has, Club teams get the shaft. I witnessed the wrestling club almost get muscled out of the wrestling room by the girls swim team. Thankfully logic prevailed and the swim team stretched elsewhere instead of the only room in school devoted to a sport that was cut more then 20 years ago. Why was this glorious sport cut? One word Money. Wrestling isn't exactly the most popular sport here in New England thus it didn't have a huge fan base, which equals the school losing money on the sport. When title IX was created wrestling was sadly one of the first to go. For those of you who don't know Title IX is the bill that passed in 1972 that forces schools to make sure boys and girls athletics is proportional with their enrollment. Although not strictly enforced until the past three or four years, Men's varsity teams have been cut nation wide to make room for new female teams in the budget. These recently cut teams have now tried to make resurgence as club teams, but with little or no success. Without the funding and school backing the clubs can barely get off the ground without a major alumni contribution. What if these cuts happened to the major sports or even worse, other departments in the Umass system?.

Visit To A Sports Club : Brief Report, Essay, IELTS Cue Card, Speech

What is a sports club.

Visit To A Sports Club : A ‘Sports Club’ is a campus grouping that offers amusement , competition, and training in sport-related activities. Sport Clubs are an essential element of the Department of Recreation Services, planned to complement intercollegiate, intramural and student/faculty activity programs, as well as physical teaching classes. These sport clubs run primarily on student, faculty and other guests’ initiative and direction.

Who Suggested You to Visit Sports Club?

I was told by a friend of mine about a sports club that has been recently inaugurated in the city, and was very excited to visit it. My friend told me that it contained all kinds of sports activities and had a bunch of professional coaches. One can go and learn different kinds of activities or just simply go and hangout with your friends.

Your Experience of Visit to a Sports Club

Since it opened, the Ultra Sports Hub was on my must-visit radar.  So, when I found out that The Lucknow Selection was playing Football in a friendly match on 20th August, I made it a point to buy tickets so that I could have fun at the new Stadium, which is part of the Hub, and where I can support our Lucknow team at the same time.

I must say that when I arrived at the 10-hectare Lucknow Sports Hub, I was rapidly swept away by the thrill and flurry that filled the air.  There were football fans getting ready to come into the Stadium to support the Home team, there were diners, shoppers, families and the curious ones – like me all enthusiastic and impatient to visit our fresh sports icon.

How Sports Club Looked?

The Lucknow Sports Hub comprises an extensive variety of venues, specifically, a 35,000-capacity Stadium, 4,000-capacity Aquatics Centre, 1,500-capacity Sports Arenas, a Water Sports Centre, a Library and about 25,000 square meters of trading and dining hall. Before the huge game, I decided to wander the shopping and dining area.  A gigantic shopping centre featuring a broad range of inter fashion brands, sportswear as well as a great variety of dining choices, I easily lost track of time while seeing all these big brands and such a great variety of sportswear, they had the best running and walking shoes. Just then there was an announcement that the match begins in next ten minutes. I quickly rushed to the stadium and occupied my seat. The greatest part about the new Sports Hub is how close the Stadium is to the shopping area.  It took me just five minutes to get from the shopping centre to my seat. How convenient it was!

As I pierced into the Stadium, I was blown away by surroundings there. The 35,000-seater stadium was unlike anything else in Lucknow. The Stadium also boasts a retractable top and customizable, preset and robotic retractable sitting room configurations on the lowest tier making it comfortable to host a thick range of sports, concerts and other actions.

Why Visit to a Sports Club Was Most Incredible ?

What I found the most incredible was the sight of the city skyline and the stream. How glorious!  How stunning it looked and felt at that moment!

I felt pleased that I had the chance to visit this remarkable stadium and be part of history, watching the first ever football game played in the new Stadium of the city.

Descriptive essay on a game at a volleyball game.

This was my first volleyball camp at Michigan Tech University this summer and I was ready. Coaches sorted us into teams, taught us some intermediate skills revolving around the technique of the game, and scrimmaging from time to time. My team leader was Ali Gerring, a recent graduate from Kingsford. We did bump-set-spike drills and six different rotations to get ready for our big scrimmage the next day. You could see the sweat glistening on our faces, and smell the hard determination to improve. You could hear players call for the ball at every court yelling, “Mine, mine mine!”

Another Sunday, another Sunday with the New York Mets being blown out. After taking 2 out of the 3 from the Colorado Rockies, the Mets currently sit 9.5 games out of second wild card spot in the National League. It would have been nice for to the Mets end up sweeping the Rockies and end the weekend 7.5 games out. With 7 games remaining on the home stand, I believe that if the Mets want to be involved in a discussion for the wild card spot, they will need to at least win 5 of the games. With 4 games against the Cardinals and 3 against the lonely Oakland A’s, it won’t be easy. As seen the weekend before the all-star break, the Mets went to St. Louis and lost 2 out 3, including only scoring 1 run in the final two days. The end of

High School Sports Research Paper

It is a known fact that sports are a significant factor into the way of life for Americans. Families will sacrifice much of their lives to see one of the children become a professional athlete. One of those sacrifices is money. Money for some families, seems almost unlimited while for the majority of families, money is something difficult to come by. Depending on which family a child belongs to, their chances of playing college or professional ball is drastically different. The world of high school sports is becoming more financially demanding than ever because camp prices are rising at an overwhelming rate, families are acquiring debt in hope that their kid is successful, and student athletes of lower class families are not getting the head starts of upper class family athletes.

Student Athletes Research Paper

“It’s funny how they have the money to pay themselves (the administrators and coaches) first and then say there’s nothing left over for the athletes. Why are the athletes on the other end?...”(ProQuest Staff) That is what Jay Bilas had to say about paying student-athletes, and many more without a voice have agreed with him. Many people believe withholding compensation from student-athletes is wrong. The student-athletes make billions of dollars for the NCAA and receive no sliver of pay from the largest collegiate athletic organization in the entire world. Many have spoken, even formed groups to help reform college sports to where the athletes receive more benefits, and while the NCAA does offer scholarships to

College sports isn't what everyone makes it out to be. Some people relate college sports to High School sports only to the extent of: it's a level harder. Many feel that college sports isn't that big of a deal. What little people know is being a collegiate athlete is a job. The life ou hae is set out for you on the court. Most of the free time off the court is spent doing homework. There's hardly any time for a social life, and or time for your family. Being a collegiate athlete isn't just about playing sports anymore, this is your job.

Catastrophic injury is devastating not only to the injured athlete, but also to the athlete’s family, school and community. The Washington Post indicated that an estimated 800 thousand boys and girls take part in high school sports yearly. This demonstrates how high school sports is a major part of the school extra curricular activity. In Daniel Gould article "Are High School Sports Good For kids?" he found that students who took part in high school sports got educational benefits and extracurricular activities have positive effects on adolescents .Experts may argue that high school sports allow kids to be physical active, but they must also recognize the clear dangers. Playing high school sports come with serious consequences and life altering changes such as physical injuries, peer pressure and psychology effects.

Students, Brian Harpin and Brent Nelson at Kankakee Kays High School [Illinois], enjoy playing soccer for the their high school team. They like being part of a team and feel they do not need to be the best players. "You have to play the game, give it your best shot, and not give up," says Nelson. Some of Nelson’s teammates let the competition acquire the best of them. "Sometimes when they missed the ball, they took out their anger on other people," he says. Other teammates told them to just play the game and have fun. All students must play competitive sports in school to make sure that they do not become obese, and so they can stay in shape.

College Admissions Essay: I Am No Star Athlete

My junior year volleyball season started off with great excitement: I would be a member of the varsity team. Little did I know, my primary position would be on the bench. It would have been very easy for me to become discouraged, but I am no quitter. Therefore, I decided to continue my hard work and dedication throughout the season, regardless of playing time. I made a vow to use the season to become a better player, both mentally and athletically. I became a cheerleader from the sidelines. I rooted for every other girl who was on the court, because they were my best friends and teammates, and they deserved to be praised and encouraged. I did all of

Personal Essay: The West Delaware Volleyball Team

Less than half. Less than half of those who never participated in sports in school, will go on to get a college degree. On the flip side almost ⅔ of student athletes, nationwide, will get a 4 year college degree. These numbers come from a poll done by the Harris Poll, a Nielsen company, that surveyed thousands of people in the U.S. From the poll, researchers found that former student athletes more regularly graduate college and have a higher average income than those that don’t. However, there is much controversy over these activities because of a recent rise in injuries among athletes. High school sports have been becoming more and more popular as of late and rate of sports related injuries has gone up with it. While we can’t ignore the dangers

International Tiebreaker

Almost 20 years ago I had a conversation with my sister during one of her collegiate volleyball seasons. She was disappointed that her playing time had diminished. I asked her, “Would you rather be a star player on a losing team, or a contributor on a National Championship Team?” Let that question sink in for a minute.

A Narrative Essay On A Trip To A Community College

I had such a passion for the sport and had never stopped loving it. Even though it took a lot of work to get back into shape and a lot of work to get back the techniques, I was happy to push myself. I decided to try out for the team at my community college sophomore year. I was genuinely terrified but I reminded myself that this type of opportunity was one that I could not take for granted. I made the team, but that was only half the battle. I wanted to be better than I was before. I wanted to prove that I could make a comeback and I needed to do it for myself. There were so many practices I felt like giving up and tried to justify it by the fact I had missed so many years and it was hopeless. The season had its ups and downs, but I had never been so proud of myself. I played great and I gave it my all. I learned a lot about myself as I played the game and also off the court with my teammates. I played college volleyball after three years of not being able to be on the court. I learned that I was resilient and there was nothing that I could not do as long as I worked for

Sports Profile Research Paper

During my junior year at Kent, I met one of the most hardworking people that I would probably ever meet. We met in the fall when we both tried out for JV soccer. Being both inexperienced and totally unfocused, it wasn’t much of a surprise when we both got cut. I know that it’s ironic that I’m calling this girl hardworking and then unfocused, but just hear me out. Getting cut from JV soccer was honestly the best thing that’s ever happened to me because otherwise I probably wouldn’t have become best friends with Nam Pham. We both dropped down to club soccer and even though Nam wasn’t the greatest at soccer, she always tried to make the most of it. Being on the field, she would always run for the ball and try to kick it even though most of the times, her kicks usually came in contact with someone’s shins instead of the ball. But her kicks were fierce and there’s me to vouch for that since one of her aggressive kicks came in contact with my shins.

College Essay Myths Debunked: Yes, You Can Write About Sports

Ivy Divider

The notion that all students who play sports write college essays about their athletic pursuits is simply inaccurate. Last year one our our students, a star football player, wrote about his aptitude for solving puzzles. Another student on the school rowing team wrote about her family’s immigration story. Athletes are not just athletes — they are complex humans with varied talents and experiences, many of which are worth exploring in essay form. Still, it is impractical to think that students who devote thirty hours or more of their lives each week to a sport, won’t feel compelled to write about their passion for soccer or aptitude for tennis or cheerleading. And rightfully so. Sports teach valuable skills like leadership, teamwork and discipline. They foster bonds of friendship that often last decades or longer. A working knowledge of sports can even be a lifelong conversation starter among strangers.

Students do not have to shy away from detailing these experiences and what they learned from them — they just have to shift the lens, add another layer, or approach these topics from creative perspectives to make them both original and reflective of a greater range of interests and talents. For example, maybe your experience diving for the ball as a volleyball player allowed you to take a risk in applying for the job of your dreams. Perhaps the qualities needed to be a good basketball player and also the skills needed to command a boardroom. Students might want to steer away from major tropes like getting injured before a big game or scoring the winning goal — though if those stories are treated with sincerity and an innovative perspective, they can make for effective essays as well. The test of whether or not you have achieved the level of creativity necessary to set a sports essay apart from all the rest is this: Could any other basketball player have written your essay? If another lacrosse player put her name on your application, would the details still be mostly accurate? If the answer is yes, find another way in; add another twist; push towards a more compelling and creative conclusion. So, yes, you can write a sports essay — it just has to be a sports essay unlike any other.

5 Reasons to Join a Sports Club

Sports Image Gallery Joining a sports club can be a lot like going to the dentist, but it's infinitely more rewarding -- and more fun. See more sports pictures.

For many of us, going to the gym has all the allure of going to the dentist. It's a painful chore instead of an uplifting treat. At first, it's tempting to write off our aversion to gyms as sheer laziness, but doesn't the gym itself share some of the blame? What's so enticing about "sweatin' to the oldies" in some overheated aerobics room, jockeying for an available elliptical machine, or trying to read Regis and Kelly's lips on a ceiling-mounted TV while pulling a hamstring on the weight machine? Thankfully, it doesn't have to be this way.

Sports clubs are the country clubs of the fitness world. Much more than just a place to work out, they offer loads of amenities that make membership not only beneficial to your mind and body, but actually enjoyable. In addition to well-stocked fitness areas, many sports clubs have expansive facilities with large lap pools, racquetball and squash courts, full-service spas and even indoor climbing walls .

Sports clubs generally aren't exclusive. Membership is more expensive than a bare-bones gym, but you're paying for the extra services and your overall comfort. That said, many sports clubs now offer low introductory rates, even waiving the standard registration fee.

If you're still convinced that gyms are a joke, keep reading for our top five reasons to join a sports club.

5: You’re a Beginner

According to the IDEA Health and Fitness Association, a fitness training organization in San Diego, 37 percent of sports and health club members are exercise beginners [source: DeFranco ]. A lot of people remain overweight and out of shape simply because they don't know where to begin. And with scads of TV and Internet advertisements for the latest fad diets and exercise regimens, it's hard to sort the facts from the fiction.

By joining a health club, you not only have access to the right equipment, but to certified personal trainers who can help you choose the best exercise plan for your fitness goals. A trip to the sports club means something very different for someone who wants to lose 30 pounds (13.6 kilograms) and someone who wants to train for a marathon . A personal trainer can teach you the right way to use treadmills, cycles, strength training machines, free weights and other exercise equipment to maximize results and avoid injuries.

A nice perk of most sports clubs is that they offer free introductory consultations from staff trainers. Depending on your membership level, additional personal training sessions are either included in your monthly package or added for an extra fee. Make sure your personal trainer is experienced and certified by major certifying organizations like the National Academy of Sports Medicine, the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America and the American Council of Exercise. Some sports clubs, like the Equinox franchise, have their own certification systems.

If you're still unconvinced, read how sports clubs can be the perfect motivation.

4: You Need Motivation

A personal trainer can do wonders for your motivation.

It's 6 a.m. on a Tuesday morning in February and you face the following choices:

Let's face it: Exercise is seldom the first choice. There is always something you would rather be doing (eating, relaxing, watching TV) or something you need to be doing (working, running errands, going to school). Lack of motivation is one of the top exercise killers, but joining a sports club can help.

First of all, most of us associate value with money. When something is free, it's easier to dismiss as unimportant. But when we pay for a monthly sports club membership, we are motivated to get the most value out of the investment. If anything can get you out of bed at 6 a.m., it's the thought that you're wasting $30 by staying in.

Another great motivation to exercise is to sign up for a class at a sports club. Classes like aerobics, spinning, yoga , Pilates, kickboxing and every combination thereof (yogalates, yoxing, spinlates, etc.) give you a scheduled time each week to get down to the club and work out. Added benefits of classes are instructors who can motivate you to work harder and a group of classmates to provide encouragement and even a sense of community.

If you can afford it, a personal trainer provides excellent motivation. Since you're paying extra, you're more likely to show up for sessions -- and it's harder to hide at the back of the class when you're the only student.

The next reason to join a sports club: everyone else!

3: To Meet New People

In magazines like "Cosmopolitan" and "GQ," sports clubs and gyms always rank among the top 10 places to meet eligible singles , along with the grocery store and the Laundromat. But even if you're not looking for a date -- or you worry that you don't look your best in a full-on sweat -- sports clubs are a great way to meet new friends and even find new business opportunities.

Sports clubs attract people with similar values and interests: staying active, keeping fit, personal improvement, participation in sports and classes, and more. Signing up for a group class is a great way to meet people who live in your same town who make similar lifestyle choices. Chances are you have other things in common -- education level, hobbies, kids and family -- that can form the basis of a solid friendship.

Sports clubs also provide excellent professional networking opportunities. For city-bound executives, a trip to the sports club has replaced the golf course as the spot of choice for meeting clients [source: Nayer ]. And who knows, the guy you meet in a pick-up basketball game could turn out to be a future business partner.

Sports clubs are also surprisingly good places to find a job. If you're unemployed, try to hit the gym when working people work out, in the early mornings, during lunchtime or evenings. Membership in a sports clubs sends some resume-friendly messages: you can afford it (so you're not desperate), you have a solid work ethic, and you're committed to self-improvement.

Keep reading to learn about the mental perks of getting in shape.

2: To Build Confidence and Improve Your Mood

Believe it or not, all that sweating can actually be relaxing.

Regular exercise does more than improve your physique. According to the Mayo Clinic, breaking a sweat at a sports club or gym can also help reduce anxiety, alleviate chronic depression and boost self-confidence.

The mind and the body are not separate and distinct entities. What we commonly consider purely mental states -- happy, sad, carefree, anxious -- are also the product of complex chemical interactions in the brain. Endorphins, for example, are neurotransmitters that produce a feeling of well-being and can even function as a painkiller. The pituitary gland releases endorphins during vigorous exercise, which explains the experience of a "runner's high."

For people who suffer from chronic anxiety and depression, regular exercise has been proven to alter body chemistry in such a way as to ease symptoms and improve overall mood. According to researchers, vigorous aerobic exercise -- the kind you experience in an aerobics, kickboxing or spinning class at the sports club -- is the best kind for boosting your mood [source: Landers ].

Self-confidence is a critical component in overall happiness. If you feel like you're overweight, or not looking your best physically, that can drain your self-confidence. Regular trips to the sports club, even if they don't result in dramatic weight loss , can improve your self-confidence simply by setting and reaching small goals and overcoming physical challenges [source: Mayo Clinic ].

Sports clubs aren't all about hard work. Our top reason to join a sports club is pure indulgence.

1: To Relax

One of the greatest advantages of sports clubs is that most of them offer a long menu of non-exercise amenities unheard-of at your typical gym or fitness center. If you're feeling stressed from work or home responsibilities and the endorphins from the StairMaster aren't cutting it, it's time to hit the spa.

Massage services are standard at most sports club spas. Choose from Swedish, deep tissue, aromatherapy, hot rock and sports massages. But massages are just the tip of the iceberg. How about some skin treatments? Seaweed wrap, mud wrap, zesty lemon cucumber scrub or cellulite-fighter wrap? Rejuvenating facial, micro-dermabrasion facial, anti-oxidant facial or men's facial? If yoga class didn't stretch away enough of your stress, try the sauna (dry heat from hot rocks) or the steam room (wet heat from steam) and melt away those worries.

Exercise is a great self-confidence booster, but so is a complete makeover. Many sports club spas include laser hair removal services, tanning beds, teeth whitening, and even a make-up consultation. Special bridal packages offer a nine-month pre-wedding package that bundles weight loss and body sculpting classes with skin care treatments and even ballroom dancing lessons. It might not reduce the stress of wedding planning, but at least you'll look great in that dress.

National Honors Society Essay

Leadership is one of the most important traits to have not only in school but outside too. In school, one can take up the position of being a leader by tutoring classmates. By helping a peer understand a topic they were confused about, a feeling of accomplishment and happiness comes along. One can also be a leader by being a part of a club and helping the club officers and other members reach their club goals. For example, I am part of the Environmental Club and I have been an active member since freshmen year. I have participated in many of the events put together by this club and have helped them in planning these events to ensure things run smoothly. At the moment, I am working with two friends on a marketing project for the tower gardens in school. If I am accepted into the National Honors Society, I will be able to gain more experience in being a leader and I will then be able to help the Environmental Club more in fulfilling more club goals. If accepted, I plan to take everything I learn from being a part of this society and apply it to my life.…

Reflection On The Latino Scholars Of Promise

If you are willing to persevere, you are certainly able to lead others through the road you've walked. Leaders help themselves and others to do the right things. They set direction and build an inspiring vision. Leadership is about mapping out where you need to go to "win" as a team; and it is dynamic, exciting, and inspiring. Through the academic program I was able to acquire leadership and become a role model for younger students. Most importantly I led others by being an example through my own victories. As a leader to others, you are able to make a big difference, and that difference affects the way they view their future and themselves. I learned to care for others and their needs, and I have seen the impact of the support I have given to them. I remember clearly that I used to struggle myself, as well; the feeling of never having someone there to inspire and encourage felt as if I had to venture into an unknown world. I knew for a fact that the Latino Scholars program was right for me. I wanted to lead others, motivate them to do their best, and most importantly give them a…

AEM Major Personal Statement

I am a great leader and throughout my high school career I have taken every opportunity I could to display this. For three out of my four years I have participated as a Muskoka Woods Leader. This required me to spend a week at a summer camp at which I would lead a group of grade 7s through a series of fun activities. Being a leader at this camp wasn't always fun and games though. I had encountered many situations with the grade 7s in which I would have to improvise and apply my knowledge of leadership to sort out. For example, during one of our games we would play, there was a little boy who was sitting off on the side not participating. I went over to talk to the boy to find out what was wrong. When I found out that he didn't understand how to play the game I knew exactly how to fix it. I brought him over to a corner and me and him played our own little one on one version of the game. I taught him how to play and I played with him until he was finally ready to join the other grade 7s. As well as being a Muskoka Leader, in my grade 11 year, I was a Link Leader for my high school. This was different from being a Muskoka Leader because this time I was working with grade 9 students who were entering high school. Throughout the year I worked with the grade 9s giving them secret tips and tricks about how they could survive their freshman year of high…

Importance Of Club In High School Club

essay on sports club

Show More Clubs 79% of middle school and high school students do clubs in school and 57% do clubs outside of school. Let me tell you, these students do better in school, have more friends, and have skills that will help them in the future. Clubs are a fun way to forget about school and just do what you love. Studies show that students who do clubs have an easier time interacting with other people. Besides that, clubs also help make new friends, relieve stress, and develop new skills. All students in middle school and high school should be a part in a club or sport. I love meeting new people, especially when we both have the same interests. When in a club or sport you can make so many new friends, but don’t just take my word for it, here is what a college …show more content… Ashley Miller says that even though clubs are more things to do on top of school work the activities you are usually involved in are things you enjoy doing, so it just makes school more fun. For example if you are really passionate for something it should not be a punishment, it should be something you look forward to doing everyday. Miller also said “engaging in a sport can help increase feelings of self-esteem and self-efficacy, which can significantly reduce your overall level of stress.” This straight out says that sports relieve stress because it will increase your self …show more content… Even though joining a club is a good thing, a lot of students think otherwise. Some people might not join clubs because they have things going on at home, are focused on their school work, or are shy and scared of making new friends. I don’t think that those kids realize that not all clubs are huge commitments so if you have things going on at home its ok if you skip a few meetings. Also, if students are worried that they won't get their homework done then they can join a club where they work on homework. I know in the Wood Dale Junior High they do have a homework club and that is a great way of making new friends. So what do you say, are you gonna join a club? Over all, students should be involved in a club. Clubs help students make new friends, relieve stress, and also you can develop a bunch of new skills. So I dare you to move your butt and go sign up for a club or even a sport! There are a lot of places you can go sign up for a club. Ask your teachers what clubs are available at your school or go to your park district and see what type of activities you can sign up for. You never know, maybe your new best friend might just be hiding in one of those

High School Students Should Have Sports Essay

It makes school fun it brings happiness and joy and it pays off for all the hard work done in class. Schools should allow sports, but also education because education is how you become someone better in life and if your path as an athlete doesn’t work you’d have more experience in other topics. I think school should just leave things the way they are. If a student wants to play sports they can but they have to keep their grades up and their GPA to a certain number. These are your tangible connections to the university. You want to focus most of your essay on your tangible academic reasons for applying to SCU, but make sure to include at least one extracurricular reason as well. Remember that the prompt asks you to “envision your life at SCU and beyond.”

It’s important to share resources specific to the university and not something you can generally find at most schools. For instance, rather than saying you like SCU for their business program, say you want to engage in the Initiative for Women’s Economic Empowerment (IWEE), whose goal is to “accelerate economic empowerment of women leaders in Silicon Valley, STEM disciplines, and in the developing world as social entrepreneurs.”

Be sure to also connect the resource you mention to your personal goals. Anyone can name unique SCU resources, but you want to underline who these opportunities support your ambitions. For the above example, a student who has campaigned to address women’s unpaid labor would naturally fit that resource.

Next, take some time to reflect on Santa Clara’s mission, vision, and values and understand how they appeal to you. These are your intangible connections to the university. Think about:

Although you don’t need to answer all these questions verbatim in your response, you need to have a clear understanding of each to guide your answer. Maybe you’ve recently started attending mass, and you’re excited for the chance to continue exploring your Catholic faith in college. Or perhaps you’re passionate about global missions, so you’re interested in the university’s cultural immersion program that will give you the chance to visit underserved communities. Remember to use the values you pick to connect you with the Santa Clara community.

At SCU, we push our students to be creative, be challenged, and be the solution. Think about an ethical dilemma that you care about that society is currently facing. This can be something happening in your local community or more globally. How can an SCU education help you prepare for and address the challenge? (150-300 words)

Santa Clara’s second prompt falls under the “ Political and Global Issues ” category. This prompt has two primary goals. The first goal is to show you’re an engaged citizen who cares about your community and wants to make a difference in the world. The second goal is to ensure your values align with the values of Santa Clara.

First, you’ll need to choose a topic. It’s important to select a topic that’s not too broad . For example, while “world hunger” and the “global water crisis” are both important issues, they are such large issues that it would be impossible to develop a feasible plan of action, let alone in 300 words.

Instead, the best strategy is to choose a sub-issue of a more significant problem, specifically one that you have a personal connection to. A common mistake students make when answering this prompt is explaining ethical dilemmas or social issues in broad terms without sharing their story, personality, or goals for the future.

For example, instead of addressing the global water crisis, you can share your proposal to bring clean water to a small village in a third-world country. You can connect this issue with your experience of watching children suffer from water-related illnesses, like Cholera and Giardia, during your visit to this village during a humanitarian trip you took in high school.

Since Santa Clara University is a Jesuit school , it’s also important to be mindful of the school’s beliefs when choosing a topic—you want to discuss an issue that aligns with the school’s values . Typically, religious schools like Santa Clara tend to be more conservative in their political beliefs. If this doesn’t align with your beliefs, you may want to consider if Santa Clara University is the right college environment for you.

Once you’ve chosen a topic, you’ll also need to address the second half of the prompt: “How can an SCU education help you prepare for and address the challenge?” This requires you to 1) research the university’s tangible resources that can help you solve the ethical dilemma and 2) explain your action plan to address the challenge.

For instance, this student may mention they are excited to take the Groundwater Hydrology class with Professor Maurer, who has worked to bring clean water to rural communities in Peru. This student might suggest that they hope to work with Professor Maurer to develop safe, low-cost, durable wells that can be maintained easily and implemented in different locations, including the village they visited on their humanitarian trip.
