What is the Role of a Mother in a Modern Family?

The role of a mother in the family has changed a lot over the last few decades. The impressive amount of social change in the last ten years has left many of us wondering how a person a could even define a family, let alone describe the role of a mother.
If we’re going to keep up with the times, we have to at least give thought to the paradigms that are constantly shifting in our lives. We’re going to take a look at how the role of the mother has turned into something different from what it was only a few decades ago.

The New Role of a Mother in the Family
The old world seemed like it was set in stone. Gender roles dominated a lot of the decisions that people got to make, especially women. The structures of society had been molded into barricades that kept individuals in tiny lanes.
The mother used to stay at home and tend to the children while the father worked. Mothers were seen as emotional supporters, destined to cook and clean while dealing with all that comes with parenting children . Fathers had the option to be as involved as they wished to be.
Parenting styles were also predetermined, and stepping slightly out of line in the way you raised your children was strictly frowned upon. Something has changed, and there is a lot to celebrate. If you’re in the position of being a new mother, sites like Kiindred can help you navigate the waters.
What is the Role Now?
It wouldn’t be accurate to say the gender roles of parents have been turned on their head. It’s more like the rules were just lifted, not reversed, and we see a lot of mothers following their dreams, raising their children, being the breadwinners, and kicking a lot of butts.
Where mothers used to be required to do literally all housework, it’s now something that no one is required to do. If anything, husbands should do that because, well, why should mothers?
It seems the absurdity of strict gender roles has been eliminated for a couple of reasons. First, research is growing which shows that gender is a social construct and roles that go along with it needn’t be strictly followed or followed at all.
We are gaining an awareness that all people should have whatever freedom they wish so long as the children are being raised well. Parenting is hard, and the only healthy way to raise great kids is by doing it as a team. When one person slacks, the other has to work harder, and this creates resentment.
We’re seeing an increase in parents working together out of respect. This is really broken the shackles and brought parents to an even plane in many cases, and this is something to celebrate.
Looking for a Community?
When you’re feeling like nobody gets your struggle, take the time to find an online community to relate to. Whether you’re a new mom or your kids have gone off to college, there’s not a reason that you have to feel alone.
The role of a mother is complicated, ever-changing, and challenging. If you’re looking for any great ideas from a great community of women, we’ve got the information you need.

10 Important Roles of a Mother in the Family
A good mom changes everything and the importance of mothers cannot be understated. A mother plays many roles over the course of her child’s life –each one vital to shaping her child in different ways. Whether she is the primary caregiver, working parent, or both she holds an incredibly important role in her family.
When my firstborn came careening into our world, I didn’t know what to expect. What was my new role of mother in my family and how could I embrace each aspect in a positive way?

I did know, of course, sort of. I had read “ What to Expect When You’re Expecting ” at least three times through, plus 5-10 other parenting, nursing, and birthing books. And about 1000 online articles about being a mom and caring for a baby.
I had listened to advice at baby showers: “sleep when the baby sleeps” and “it’s life-changing” and “cherish every minute, it goes so fast.”
But I still didn’t know what to expect in this essential role.

At first, it was all consuming just to keep this tiny miracle alive . To stop her screeching, to get her latched properly, to keep her comfy, to hope I wasn’t irreversibly screwing her up.
As the intensity of the early months faded,we came up for air, and my role in our family unit had shifted.
I wasn’t just Katie anymore. I wasn’t just a wife. I was a mother. And it more than any other role changed me. I lost myself in it for a bit , it felt impossible not to, but I also found myself: stronger, gentler, more alive than ever.

1. The Caregiver
I was acting as her first care-giver.
- When I broke myself to bring her into the world alive.
- When I used by body to feed and sustain her for months.
- When I changed each gag-inducing dirty diaper.
- When I pushed her little arms into the thick snowsuit, zipping her snug as a bug against the elements.
- When I steadied her arms as she walked, and spooned baby food into her mouth….
Whether you are at home full time or a working mother or anything in between , this role of Caregiver is an incredibly exhausting, breathtakingly beautiful miracle.
This role is most intense with younger children, but will take less time in later years. My role as a caregiver is shifting as my kids get older… sometimes that makes me sad, and sometimes it deeply thrills me–the complicated and mysterious joy of motherhood.

2. The Health Care Provider
As part of my health care provider role in family life I am the nurse healing scrape with a mother’s kiss, spooning chicken noodle soup into bowls, making doctor’s appointments, and dosing tylenol for children’s fevers.
The mother’s role of health care provider is a big one!
3. The Activity Coordinator
As the activity coordinator I am in charge of my children’s schedule. I keep track of their school activities, play dates, doctor’s appointments, music lessons and any number of other events. Not to mention making sure all the calendars synch up!
That is a huge job in a child’s life–one you may not fully appreciate until YOU are the adult trying to balance all the things.

4. The Child’s Teacher
I am my child’s first language arts teacher as I read my children nursery rhymes. I am the first math teacher as I count to 10 over and over again. As they begin school I help them understand how academic achievement can help their lives and proof papers and help them understand the importance of basic math skills as we cook together.

5. The Financial Planner
Kids have no idea what money is or how to use it. One of my roles in my child’s life is to act as their financial planner taking care of all the household expenses and teaching them to be responsible and generous with money.
In our house I do this by allowing our children to earn money for small jobs around the house. Then we help them learn to save, spend and give the money that they earn.

6. The Emotional Nurturer
While I am meeting those little physical needs as caregiver, I also took on the role of Nurturer, meeting my child’s emotional needs.
When I answered her squawks at 3 am, I told her I would always come for her.
When I picked her up and kissed her ouchies as she learned the messy business of walking upright, I told her I cared about her pain and I would do anything in my power to take it away. These small moments of meeting my child’s emotional needs have a deep impact on her life.

As a nurturing mother I am entrusted to the emotional needs of my kids. I hold them when they’re sad, I cheer with them when they’re happy, I talk with them when they’re scared, and help them with their big angry feelings too. It’s one of the biggest responsibilities of a mother.
As I was lay on the floor at 6 weeks postpartum feeling completely exhausted and overwhelmed, all I wanted was my mom. A mother’s nurturing never stops being needed by her children. I never stop learning from my own mom, never stop needing her and neither will my kids.
7. The Relationship Coach
I mediate a lot of disagreements in my child’s life (especially among siblings). I help them with problem resolution at home and out an about with friends. Eventually I will help them with dating skills and navigating all the social life drama of high school.
I coach them on how to apologize and make restitution. I give them conversation starters and good questions to help them form friendships.

8. The Home Caretaker
When my kids are small my role as the home caretaker includes being the chef, housekeeper, groundskeeper, laundress and more. Over time as my kids grow, I begin to include them in these undertakings so they can learn the life skills they need in a safe, “it’s okay to fail” environment.
“We all work together to keep our house clean.”
In my family we chant this little motto together to remind us that while my role as a mother may now include more of the home caretaker, it is a role that EVERYONE in our family takes part in.

9. The Brain of the Family
While this may be dad’s role in some families in most families I know, mom carries the mental weight of the family.
From knowing what groceries need ordered to who needs a dentist appointment to planning the next family vacation to deciding what to buy for Christmas presents– the role of the mother as the brain for her family members is a an important one.
As the brain of the family moms often have to think and remember things for everyone–which is mentally exhausting! It’s okay to delegate some of the mental load of parenting to your spouse and children as they get older.

10. The Spiritual Guide
My final role as a mother is as a spiritual guide, teaching faith and moral values to my children. This is perhaps the mother’s role with the most vital impact. Guiding my kid to be a kind human being who loves people and loves God is my life’s greatest work..

There isn’t much spiritual conversation happening with a baby. But, as a Christian mother it was important to me to be guiding my children and teaching them faith, even when they were too little to understand it.
I read them Bible stories as babies. I actually read the Jesus Storybook Bible out loud to my daughter during my last month of pregnancy. I sang hymns and worship songs over them. I clapped their chubby hands to songs in church.
Now that they’re bigger I get to have bigger conversations, bigger teachings, and most important, bigger modeling of what a life of following Jesus looks like on a daily basis.
Answering my kids questions about faith has grown my faith in such big ways. They ask questions I haven’t thought to ask in a long time. I’m so grateful for their questions and that God’s Word can stand up to their childlike scrutiny.
RELATED: HOW TO DITCH MOM GUILT FOR GOOD
I’ve learned so much about God’s heart for me through mothering my kids: forgiveness, kindness, unconditional love, PATIENCE, perseverance. I’m so thankful that as I guide them spiritually (both in my Christian faith and in morals in general), I’m also learning and growing right along with them.
I want my children to know God’s character and become children of character.

I will play many different roles in life, but the role of mother is one of my biggest and most important. I don’t have to be a perfect parent, I just have to be MY child’s parent. I’m the one God specifically created to be their coach, cheerleader, caregiver, and spiritual guide.
You are that gift to your kids too. You are the perfect mother, the exact right one, hand picked by God to provide for them physically, emotionally and spiritually.
I know being a mom can be exhausting and thankless, but keep your head up sister, you are doing a massive and indispensable and beautiful things “just” by being a mom.

Mother’s Role in Society
“Under the feet of one’s mother, lies the Heaven. ” Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) “I remember my mother’s prayers and they have always followed me. They have clung to me all my life. ” Abraham Lincoln God created men and women to build life together and to complete one another all lifelong. Hence, Islam opened the door to women to wade through all the fields of struggle in life side by side with men, supporting each other, helping, and completing one another.
Moreover, Islam did not separate them in roles, the thing that is clearly shown in God’s saying {The Believers, men and women, are protectors one of another: they enjoin what is just and forbid what is evil. } (9:71). Once we understand that justice embraces everything positive in life, and that evil comprises everything negative in it, we will then realize that men and women are partners in building up life. And just like men are responsible of the society, women also are equally responsible of the society they live in.
So, outside the framework of the specifically motherhood and fatherhood characteristics where they perform absolutely different functions, men and women have vast areas to conquer, building life shoulder to shoulder as human beings, equal in humanity. Accordingly, we can say that Islam had opened the door to women to enjoy life as a whole, in contrast to what some people may assume that it had tied them down in their characteristics as females.

The sphere in which a woman can express her femininity is narrow to a certain extent, because it is restricted to her marital life where her role as a female is mainly revealed, and to her family and feminine milieu where she can show her feminine traits through wearing ornaments or whatever… not to mention motherhood that is the most important feminine role that a woman fulfills. But motherhood itself is not purely a feminine role; all the more so it is a human role in a woman’s life. Thus, the role of a woman as a human being remains her most essential role in life.
She must confirm, in her actions, that she is a person of reason, a person of will, a person of affection, and a person who has a mission to carry out and she should prove that she has the ability to take part in life. So, women’s humanity is the most important aspect in their personality because it is the aspect that symbolizes the aim God (S. W. T) created them to achieve in this world. He created women to contribute to the existence with the faculties they have, just as He created men to contribute to the existence with the abilities they possess.
Therefore, we believe that, while the feminine aspect of the woman’s personality is revealed in a delimited sphere, her human aspect is manifested in her whole existence as a woman. Even more, the human aspect of her personality will indeed be integrated with the feminine aspect of her conduct as a female, whether with her husband or within her own specific sensations of femininity. Verily, the aspect of humanity in her will enrich that conduct turning it into a nobler one, and will expand her giving to the partner that she joins in marriage.
Every society is made up of blocks of family units. The stronger each block is, the stronger the structure of the society. Families are thus the building blocks, upon which rests the fate of society. For the development of good families, the mother plays a vital role. Many women today have aspirations of progress in their careers, and degrees in various fields. However it is indisputable that the most important achievement of a mother is the raising of sensible, virtuous children who will then move on to build other strong blocks for society.
It has been said that it is easy to bear children but it is difficult to raise them well. In that lies the challenge for all women who are mothers. Mother is, likely, one of those few words whose very cite inspires a fountain of emotions in the heart of almost every person. As very well said by a wise man, the mother's lap is the first school for every child. Mother is every man's primary wealth. Women are the creator and destroyer of society. Women can make a family, thus making the society a heaven by removing the wrongs and evils from the society.
Our society views motherhood as something very special. Mothers should provide security and stability for their children. An ideal mother must sacrifice many of her own wants and desires for the benefit of her child and should teach him/her the ethics of being a good citizen. An ideal mother tries her best to carry out the goal to make her home a paradise for her children. A Muslim mother has a valued and dignified role. Her contribution is acknowledged and appreciated. Her unparalleled gifts to the child have been aptly described by Imam Zaynul `Abidin (a) in Risalatul Huqooq – The Chapter of Rights.
It is the right of your mother that you should appreciate that she carried you [in her womb] the way nobody carries anybody. She fed you the fruits of her heart which nobody feeds anybody. She protected you [during pregnancy] with her ears, eyes, hands, legs, hair, limbs, [in short] with her whole being, gladly, cheerfully, and carefully; suffering patiently all the worries, pains, difficulties, and sorrows till the hand of God removed you from her and brought you into this world.
Then she was most happy, feeding you forgetting her own hunger, clothing you even if she herself had no clothes, giving you milk and water not caring for her own thirst, keeping you in the shade, even if she had to suffer from the heat of the sun, giving you every comfort with her own hardships; lulling you to sleep while keeping herself awake. " The foundation of the family is laid with the decision to marry, and the importance of the mother is evident in Islamic teachings beginning with marriage, conception and then child rearing.
As times change, mothers change to meet the new roles that they are expected to play. Gone are the days where most mothers just cared for the family and the home. Mothers today are a lot of things to a lot of people. Mothers still have to fill the mother role, but it is not felt that they are the only ones responsible for rearing the family. What is a mother? It is now harder than ever to answer that question. The role of the mother is infinitely complex. Take any street in any town and ask a mother how they would define their role.
All the answers will be different and significantly so. The changing role of mother today includes career issues, responsibility for total home care, education of children, healthy life styles for family, and there is more focus on mother as a person with needs of her own. You didn’t disagree with mom on issues of life styles and how to care for the home. The problem with the role of mothers then and the role they now have is the need to feel that they had to be all things to all people.
Today mothers are not afraid to say what is on their mind and someone think they are not a good wife or mother. The changing role of mothers should not be seen as a bad change, but one that promotes healthy happier life styles for all family members. Mothers will always fill the role of mother, no matter how many changes in life occur. Families today are just realizing the importance of all the roles mothers have played in the past and how her role is changing for the better.
Women can change the society’s lookout and so they are only responsible for its upliftment or downfall. We all are greatly influenced by our Mothers. She remains a great reservoir of inspiration for all of us throughout our lives. Mothers not only inspire and make us good human beings but also bring smile on our faces. Mother’s value as a role model and keeper is undeniable. There is no substitute to mother for a baby. Mother plays a keystone role in bringing up newborn. Mother’s role is not limited to newborns only.
Mothers have to play a lively role even after their babies are grown up regardless of their age. In most of the Asian countries, mother is considered as symbol of strength and integrity and binding force for a family. Mother also plays a critical role in career building of her child, as mother best knows the capabilities, strengths and weaknesses in her kid and can better guide her child to choose the right profession. As mothers, are the one who mould their children into bright, beautiful, pure and strong itizens, we assign a special place to women in the society.
It is therefore all the more important that the girls who are studying presently, should train themselves in such a way that they can live up to the ideals and aspirations of future woman. In conclusion, if we want a good society, first of all we have to look for a good mother, as a mother is not only a school, but she is also the life, origin of human.

Essay Sample on My Roles In the Family As a Daughter
Family is the most important and basic unit of society in which each member plays a vital role. Family members work together to raise enthusiastic, productive, law-abiding citizens. Foundation laid by families and communities helps build future generations that define a nation’s fate. I am blessed to have a family of six people. I am the eldest daughter and I have three other siblings, two sisters, and one brother. Being firstborn and second in command, I have various responsibilities towards my family.
My Role in the Family
Let’s move on and talk about my role as a member of the family. Being the eldest means taking the role of childcare to some extent. When my parents are focused on shopping, I do not let my siblings be out of my sight. I take care of little household chores. I look after my siblings’ well-being when we play. I make sure my siblings don’t get into trouble when we are home alone. My responsibilities based on my role also include helping my siblings eat breakfast and get ready for school. I also take care of them in the school by helping them against bullies. After returning from school I also help them with their homework and teach them how to play different group games.
Even after all that mother and father scold me the most if something goes wrong. You can now understand that I am more like a nanny for my siblings and a helper for my parents.
Benefits of My Role in The Family
Being the firstborn also comes with a lot of benefits and not just duties. I think my parents love me the most and always agree with what I say. I have mastered the art of manipulating my immediate family members. I like ordering things like, fetch me a glass of water, walk the dogs, attend the main door, etc. I also have the first say on who gets the best toys, who gets the best dresses. Some other benefits include
- They only get things that I get first
- No one in my family ever pushed me around.
- I am a role model for my other siblings and they only do what I do first.
- With more responsibility, I also had more power over my siblings.
Most importantly, I show them what it means to be a good child. I serve as a role model by being obedient to our parents, teachers, relatives, friends and respectful to the elderly. Likewise, I exhibit the characteristics of a good student. I do my assignments before playing with my toys or doing sports.
I am not saying that I am a perfect older sibling by any means. I also have many flaws including being impatient, being an introvert, and keeping my own company as much as possible. But they never complain about my habits and accept me as I am. This is what families do and my family is always working toward bringing the best in me. I want my family to become the coolest, kindest, loving, and caring. I just love them like they are and this is the reason why I love my family.

Roles and responsibilities of a Mother In The Family
The following are the duties and responsibilities of a mother in the family:
1. Childbearing : Childbearing is the primary and sole responsibility of a mother, as she is the only one who can bear a child.
Childbearing is a very essential responsibility because, without its fulfillment, we won’t have a proper family setting of Father, Mother, and Children.
2. Catering for the children : Upon Childbearing, it is the responsibility of the mother to cater to such a child. She is solely responsible for breastfeeding that Child, and also as the child grows she still exercises the responsibility of taking care of the child, carrying the child, and feeding the child. The same responsibility is still applicable to a mother when she has more than one Child.
3. Catering: While it is the responsibility of a mother to cater for her child as expatiated above, it is also her traditional duty to do catering for the family. Catering in this instance means cooking food, buying foodstuffs, baking snacks, and satisfying the stomach of members of the family.

4. Laundry: This is another traditional responsibility and role of a mother in a family, as from time immemorial it is the mother that does the laundry, especially that for her children.
Thus, she is responsible for washing the clothes of her children, spreading them, arranging them into their drawers, and ironing them as the case may be.
5. House Chores: Completing house chores has been the traditional role of a mother in the family, hence the emanation of the concept of Housewife.
A Housewife is a woman whose occupation is caring for her family, house affairs, and doing the house chores. This means that in such a family where the mother is a housewife, while the Husband goes to work, the mother will stay at home doing the house chores. These chores include but are not limited to: Sweeping the house, cooking, washing plates, fetching water, cleaning the house, and washing clothes.

6. Teaching the children : This is an important role of a mother in the family. In the process of nurturing the Children, the mother ought to teach her children how to behave properly, how to be responsible and how to indulge in all aforementioned house chores, from cooking, to how to wash their clothes, to how to wash their plates, amongst others.
7. Keeping the Family Together : With the uprising in divorce cases and judicial separation all over the world, the role of a mother has stepped up as she can now help bring unity and keep the family together through bonding with her children, submitting to her husband, and Childbearing. Childbearing is a very essential tool of curbing divorce and keeping the family together, as most often the husband will have a double mind with respect to the welfare of their children if there will be a separation, and because of these Children, he will remain committed to the marriage.

8. Caring : In most instances, a Mother is caring. Hence, it is usually her responsibility to exercise care not just for her children, but for guests in the house. That’s why most often when a Family receives a visitor; it is usually the mother who runs around gathering refreshments and food which such visitor will consume.
9. Emotional bond : The mother is usually close to her child. Hence, she builds a strong emotional bond with such Child and it is, therefore, her duty to inculcate that Child with value, moral principles, and nurture them properly into their environment.

What are the roles of Mothers in the family
Recommended: How to know your purpose in life
It is on this note that we can conclusively say that the role of a Mother in a family cannot be overemphasized. The mother is like the livewire of the family, and as such, it is very difficult for a family to cope without a mother, especially for the young children.
This essentiality of a mother to a family as elaborated above is the reason mothers are cherished, loved and Mother’s day is occasionally celebrated to appreciate the input of mothers to the Family.

What if the “Mother/Mom” is the Grandmother & not the biological one to have given birth to the child, but rather just raised her with her Husband/Dad/Grandfather of the child instead?

Essay On Role Of Family
Women's roles in ancient greece.
But, this should not be the case. Things such as the property and political advantages could be transferred to the woman by marriage and depended on the mothers’ ability to give birth, and educate their sons. As men would sit through an examination system, the importance of a well-raised and educated son became very evident. A woman’s nurturing of her husband and children were a hallmark of the wife’s ability to help improve the status of the family which she married into. The appreciation of women lied in their talent of being good helpers. For example, being a good helper consisted of a woman’s role as a parent and household manager (Zurndorfer).

Importance Of Family In The Odyssey
Family is the fundamental building block of all societies. It is all inclusive across generations and cultures. Based on the epic poem The Odyssey and current families today, we see that family is where we learn to love ourselves and each other, to bear one another’s burdens, to find meaning in our life and to give purpose to other’s lives, and to feel the value of being part of something greater than ourselves. Family is where we experience our biggest triumphs, deepest vulnerabilities, and where we have the greatest potential to do good.

Fahrenheit 451 Family Analysis
Family is a group of a husband, a wife and a child who live together with special connection and love, yet the society today fails to show this fundamental quality of it. The expression of love dissolved and the bond has been broken. The modern family has decreased their family time and spent more time on technology. It is also difficult to feel the love within the household as there is a plethora of news imparts the family issue such as murdering or abusing. Also there are many reports of celebrities getting divorce or remarrying. Surprisingly, family in the modern day has lost its meaning and become similar to the society in the book Fahrenheit 451.
Definition Of Family Essay
Family is characterized with common aspects such as parents, grandparents, and siblings but there are so many other ways to distinct family. The word family is commonly defined as a group of individuals that have the same ancestors, and gather for holidays and other special events. This particular definition is true in so many ways, but everyone goes through life with situations that are brought up that bring together or break apart families. When I think about the word family and my experiences I have gone through and I would consider family to have crazy moments, lots of laughter, and unconditional love.
Sociological Perspective Family
The family can be defined as ‘any combination of two or more persons who are bound together by ties of mutual consent, birth and/or adoption and who, together, accept responsibility for the care and maintenance of group members through procreation or adoption, the socialisation of children and social control of members’ (UN, cited in McDonald 2003:80). However, the ‘family’ is

Modern Family is a hilarious sitcom that depicts the diversity of today’s American family and is one of the highest rated comedy shows on TV. The show, which is produced by ABC was a success from the first season with over seven million viewers and grew to more than fourteen million views by season three. The comedy combined with diversity and great acting makes this show attracting to a broad range of viewers and proves that everyone loves a good laugh.
The Importance Of The Family
The family is the basic unit of the society. They are peoples’ pillar of strength, inspiration, encouragement and love. From the very beginning of one’s life, the family played a very important role in the overall development of the child – his personality, interpersonal relations, the way he saw himself, and his viewed of the world. The family then is not just a group of people who shared the same name and lived under the same roof. Rather, they are people who loved each other, interacted, and helped each other grew into better individuals.
An Analysis Of Hometown, By Luis Cabalquinto
The home is a sanctuary of love and peace. It is the place where one feels entrenched upon. We do not talk of a physical structure which holds the living room, garage, and bedroom; but rather, of home and its embodiment in entirety. We talk of people as a home or people who causes something to become home. Moreover are events, memories, and experiences which relate to a person’s most comfortable feelings. It is something each and ever person possess.
Speech About Family
Family is one of the greatest gift and blessing from the Lord. Without family you can not feel love, care , satisfaction and happiness. They are the most treasured blessing that no one can take away from us. It is also like a fragile thing you consider as the most precious gem in your whole life. Family is a basic unit in the society traditionally consisting of parents and children. It does not need to be blood related in order to be a family.
Gender Inequality In The Family
The family is viewed as an essential part of our society, it always has been and it always will be. Although the family as a unit is vital for the continuous running of our society it can no longer be known as a fixed category. The first definition of a family found online is “a group consisting of two parents and their children living together as a unit”. This is still the only way many people can view a family. Another that deviates from this particular image is seemingly wrong or incomplete. Families have been around since the beginning of time for the sole reason of procreation. People were reproducing in order to carry on the lineage and to carry on a name. the family is an ideal example of gender inequality. In the centuries that have

A Wife and Mother’s Role
- By Joe and Cindi Ferrini
- January 1, 2010

It wasn’t until our second child was born that we realized the difference between raising her and raising our firstborn — our son with special needs. Yet no matter the roles and responsibilities a husband or wife takes, it often falls on a wife and mother to discern how to best support and nurture each relationship within the family.
Two Roles – One Person
When it comes to the dual roles of wife and mother , I (Cindi) have been stretched through daily challenges and frustrations as well as through life’s victories and joys. I have learned to perfect the dance that best fits each relationship in my family — to master the movements that make each relationship work together. Our goals as a couple and as individuals are to develop our relationships with God, then keep our marriage relationship strong so that we have what it takes to raise our children and care for them the way God would want.
Balancing My Roles as a Wife and Mother
Work, ministry and friends — while important — should not take precedence over our relationship as a couple, or over our relationships with our children. It’s tough enough balancing the demands of everyday life, but it’s a whole new ball game when one child requires hours of therapy, hospital stays and seemingly constant attention.
My Role as a Wife
As a wife, I want to be a supportive helper to my husband. Each morning, Joe and I have individual routines to help our son get ready for his job. As Joe walks out the door to take Joey to work, we share one or two things we can pray about. We connect again over coffee or a snack to share the ups and downs of our day. We may have to wait until everyone is in bed and our son’s needs are met, but this habit has kept us on the same page these 30 years when we could have easily gone in two different directions. It’s allowed us the freedom to air the day’s frustrations and listen to each other talk about work, home and the never-ending responsibilities of caring for our son.
In a culture that continues to try and redefine “submission,” I’ve found it imperative to submit — to yield and follow my husband’s lead . We submit to one another on many issues and typically reach compromises that work for both of us; but during the times I’ve gotten little rest, faced too many decisions about our son’s healthcare and struggled with too much to do, I have followed his lead because he often sees what I’m missing.
I recall a time when I considered jumping into a “helping” role with someone who would have drained me. Joe reminded me of a similar situation that took a toll on me. His loving, protective reminder was the guidance I needed. As a result, I did not add that situation to my already-full schedule. Sometimes we spin so many plates at one time that we fail to notice how life at home is falling apart. (Or we are!)

My Role as a Mother
A solid marriage is one that’s better able to support and nurture all members of the family. The pressures of caring for our son has caused me to ask myself and God if I am modeling to our daughters (and others who may be observing) an attitude of service and a heart of compassion, willingness and sacrifice. It takes effort to reflect those traits. As I learned, I began to practice the following behaviors:
- Protecting the girls rather than overprotecting them . (They had to be treated differently than our son with special needs.)
- Giving attention to each child before they needed it. Sharing special times doing things they enjoyed — both quality time and quantity time.
- Providing spiritual training, cultural opportunities and creative outlets appropriate to their ages, abilities and interests.
- Valuing each child as an individual because God made each one so wonderfully different!
- Being proud when they put forth effort — whether or not they excel.
- Not comparing!
- Helping our children understand that different seasons of life have different needs. Joey didn’t understand this, but it was a valuable lesson for the rest of us! (For example, riding bikes as a family lasted only until Joey was too big for an adaptive bike trailer.)
- Teaching them that while life isn’t always fair, God gives us what we really need and the ability to handle it. (Psalm 138:8: “God will accomplish what concerns me.”)
- Respecting our daughters’ individual social lives while also training them to care for our son. (But never expecting it to be “their job.”) At times, this meant arranging for a caretaker or paying them. We wanted them to experience freedom and responsibility, but never the feeling that we were taking advantage of their “free” services. As we have respected their young lives, they have become helpful and compassionate women who love Joey and want to care for him someday.

The Role And Significance Of Mother

A mother is a person who is known as a strong woman and a flexible one. She plays an important role in all aspects of our life. All of us, we call her the light of our home. In the four corners of our house, her light always shines.
She is the most lovable person in the whole world we all know. His unconditional love, unending care, and life sacrifices are those things that make a way for her to be connected with us. Our hearts and lives will always be connected in her heart and life. No matter what happens or no matter how far the distance we are right now from her, her love will never change. Even sometimes we tend to focus on the other people and we forgot her, she is the one who will make a way to win us back again.
Our mother has a deep connection with us. This connection definitely cannot be compared by anyone else. No one can describe or understand the strong connection and bonding of a mother to her children. We know that our connection to our mother starts from the day we born. Because of that connection, she can even understand us when we are infants without any communication. She knows when we are hungry, she knows why we are crying, she knows when we are sick and she knows what makes us happy. This connection continues til in our adult life.
A mother is a person who always there for us in times of happiness, sadness, tough times or any season of our life. She is always willing to listen to all our life concerns. She is the first person who feels hurt when we get hurt. She is our loyal and number one fan whenever we have big or small achievements in life. She is the most concerned or worried one whenever we are in the wrong direction. She is the one who can always forgive us no matter how many wrong things we have done. She is always willing to accept us when all the people around us cannot accept us. She is a person who can understand us.

Her role in our home is not only a helper or nanny. Many people have a wrong understanding and perspective about the role of a mother in a home. Some people look at her as a helper or nanny because she can do all things inside the house and others look at her as a villain because some of the members of the family misinterpret all her advice. We should look at her as a special and important person in our family, without her all of us will suffer in many things. For example, if our mother is not in our house and no one can cook food, who will cook? If someone in our family is sick, who will be willing to sleep late and take care of him or her? Those are a simple example of the time that we can’t live without our mother.
We can surely say that without her we can feel that something is missing. Whatever situation we have in our life, believe it or not, we always want her to be with us. Because we know that she is the only person who will be willing to stay with us until we get better. We know that she is the person whom we can trust. She is our shoulder that we can always lean on. She is our strength but for her, we are her strength.
The love of our mother cannot compare to the love of other people. She always looks after our family and protects all of us. She always tries her best to give the best things to her children. We can also describe the word mother as selfless love, because for her to make her children or family happy she can give and sacrifice anything.
All of these words are not enough to describe how much we admire our mother. She is so amazing. One important thing that we can give to her is not only our words of respect but more important is also the love that our mothers wanted from us.

Describing a Mother and her Role in our Society
“Describing a Mother and her Role in our Society”
Understanding a Mother’s Role and Encouraging Love, Adoration and Respect for Her In fact, “Mother’s Role in the Society” is considered to be quite a sensitive and emotional topic for the discussion. Interestingly, nowadays there are many writers who highlight this issue in their literary works. In general, the mother can be described in various ways and in different situations. Some examples, which can be used in a Mother Essay, are stated below: * Biologically, a mother is a social female parent of an offspring * Collectively, it is she who fulfills the main social role in raising the child But for the various definitions, there is one thing common throughout the whole world: each mother should be loved and respected.
Actually, this factor should be emphasized by the society we are living in. Indeed, there can hardly be a community which would say that the mother is nothing but a living being made to deliver children. However, still there might be some humans who would think like this. But in general, every culture has a valued position for the mother. It is a well-known fact that the mother is strongly related to her children. Hence, a Mother Essay should be specially focused on a mother- child relationship. Everyone supports a view that the mother is not just the woman who gives birth to a child, but the one who adopts the child and considers it to be hers. In reality, there are many reasons why the mother cannot bring up the child she gave birth to: * Poverty It is crystal clear that the raising a child in poverty is a great challenge. If a lonely mother cannot earn her living, she may not be able to earn for the child. This makes her abandon her child. * Social problems Some communities still follow Infanticide, which is killing an infant. In such cases, each mother wants her baby to survive and hence she may give away the baby to someone else. * Superstitions In certain uneducated families, new born babies are killed or discarded because they were born with some disease. They tend to give such kid a superstitious name and throw away the baby. In any case, a mother is always unhappy about the departure of her baby. In many communities, a mother is considered an incarnation of Goddess. Therefore, she is highly praised and worshiped.
People celebrate Mother’s Day to commemorate the spirit of motherhood. Thanks to this approach, the Mother Essay would bring awareness among the rest of the communities to consider the image of mother as an angel who cares for all family -members equally. Traditionally, the mother is associated with the following roles: * Giving birth to a child * Educating the child with good values * Making a family circle from a house * Taking care of all members of the family Dealing with a Mother Essay, it should be kept in mind that in a father-mother-children relationship the closest person for any member is a mother. She is the center towards which all other elements are closely attached. The father may not be too close to the children because he needs to take care of earnings for his family. Children might not be that close to their father, as he is most of the time away from home. Amazingly, some mothers might act even as a communicative line between the children and their father. This shows the importance of a mother in a family.

This word “mother” is precious. Mother is not only the word but the basis of our living. It is tough to live without a mother’s accompaniment. In the morning until we do not hear the mother’s voice, it has not happened in the morning, or today is the Sunday.

It does not know that God is a mother or God comes in the form of a mother in this world to protect us.
Mother’s Day Celebration
Mother’s Day is a day when every child celebrates it specifically for their mothers. It is celebrated annually as a significant event of the year on the second Sunday of May. Nowadays, schools celebrate Mother’s Day in the presence of their children.

Role of Mother 5 Pages 1157 Words
A good mother has been historically expected to contribute her whole life to her family. Mothers have been the glue that holds a family together because it is up to them to provide the loving care and support needed by growing children. The nurturing a mother provides is unparalleled and a vital part of a child's care. It takes learning and practice to become a qualified mother. It is not an easy job because mothers must learn as they go. It is helpful if they were raised in a caring home so that they can pass it on to their child. A good mother is obligated to care for her family and put them before al else. The ideal living environment that a mother can provide for her children is a warm caring home. In our current society many problems arise for the role of a mother. Traditional beliefs are being tested because many moms are now single parents and have to take on an even bigger role in the life of their child. Not only must they provide the care and support a child needs but they must also provide enough income for the family to live on. This is a huge role for anybody to take on. It is extremely difficult for a mother to provide everything a child needs so it helps if the child has another male figure to look up to. That way even if a father isn't in the picture the child still has a male role model. A mother is also capable of creating many damaging problems in a child's life if she doesn't take her role seriously. If a mother fails to provide her child with the essential habits and morals it needs then most likely the child will not develop into its full potential. In my opinion, the mother figure plays the most vital role in a child's life because she is the most important role model for the child. In addition, it is up to the mother to teach the child through love so that they will grow up into a caring well rounded person. A bad mother can have huge consequences on a famil ...

My Mom Essay
As for me, my mom is my best friend and it was always like that, how much I remember myself. I love and admire my mother as she gave me the most important thing – my life. I think it is the best present. Sometimes people ask what parents gave you on your birthday? And the answer – life is always correct. When I came to this huge world my mother smiled at me. Despite everything she was happy to see me. And only mother was the first person I see after the birth. Of course, I don’t remember that moment, but I like to think that it was like that.
Mother did not sleep enough because of me, she was the happiest women when I made my first steps, said my first word. I am not a child now, but mother is still worrying about me, interested in my life, she is proud of me and rejoices all my achievements. I always try to remember about mother’s love even if we swear. I know mother will never give me the bad advice and never wish something evil. Friends can betray, boyfriend can betray , but mother – never. My future worries her and she is going to do everything to help me and to make all my dreams true.
Support And Love
Who if not mom will give you the perfect support and disinterested love? These things are very important for me. I don’t know how, but mother always can inspire me on different new successful results in job and studies. She adds confidence to me. Sometimes I am not sure that I can cope with this or that situation, nut if mother says YOU CAN, I BELIEVE IN YOU, it means I really can. Just for my mom I try to change and to become better. I don’t want to disappoint her or to make her cry. My mother’s praise for me is the best reward in the world.
How To Respect You Mother
If you are familiar with the Bible, you know that one of the 10 commandments of God is about parents and our attitude towards them. The fifth commandment sounds like this - give honor to your father and to your mother, so that your life may be long in the land which the Lord your God is giving you. It is no matter are you believer or not, but almost all of us are the Christians ( http://livecustomwriting.com/blog/belief-systems-essay-what-do-you-believe-in ) and that’s why we always agree with this statement. You know that your mother always deserves care and respect. Now we just want to help you and to give you some useful advices, following them it will be easier for you to respect your mom and don’t forget to take care of her even if you far away.
1) Learn always to forgive your mother. Forgiveness is the highest degree of reverence. It is not a secret that there are no perfect parents. You mother also can make mistakes but you should always remember that she loves you. Sometimes it happens that children expect from their moms more than they can give. Mom's love is sometimes blind and it happens that in excessive care about you, they can harm you. Forgive your mother always. Believe me, you are not always perfect and your mom often forgives you even if you don’t notice it. It is also necessary to ask forgiveness in time ( http://livecustomwriting.com/blog/how-to-ask-forgiveness-apology-essay ).
2) Speak good words about your mother. Talking about mother with respect is also a good way to respect her. It is no use to tell other people your family problems and misunderstandings. Even it is modern nowadays never do in such a way. Talking with friends, relatives, co-workers, always say only positive about your mother. Be proud of her and let other people respect her even if they have never seen her in reality.
3) Respect mother in public and in seclusion. What do you think is very important for our parents? It is important for them to know and see how they have positively influenced you. Don’t forget to pay tribute to parents everywhere. You can’t even imagine how your mother will be happy to hear phrases like this: I learned how to manage money thanks to your mother or I did it in such a way as you taught me, mom. It is very simple, but our parents are happy to hear it. We can say such things eye to eye or in public places or during the family holiday, when your task is to give a solemn speech.
4) Ask mother for advice. Of course, you are very clever and always know how to proceed. But remember that your mom knows a lot more and has a life experience. Ask her advice in different life situations and you will see how happy she’ll be. She is always ready to help you with a word or deed.
5) Support your mother financially if she needs it. You see, your mother can’t be always young and full of energy. In the fullness of time she spent a lot of money on you and your education. So it is normal if you will help your mother when you will have a well-paid job. Don’t let she ask you for a help, do it with joy and voluntarily.
6) Support your mother morally. I think all parents are afraid of being old and lonely. And it is normal. When we are young we think that the whole life is before us and we try to be always independent. But it will be perfect if you promise your mom never leave her alone when she grows old. Take care of her - it's your duty and it's better to do it with joy.
7) Invite your mother to visit you. Despite everything, your mom is always happy to see you and to communicate with you. If you are very busy at work, you need to find time for meeting with your best mother.
8) Take your mother on a picnic. It is wonderful time to have a rest, to have a heart-to-heart talk. You can tell about your joys and experiences. It's also cool to remember the time when you were a child and the mother often walked with you in the park.
9) Visit your mother and buy something for her. You don’t need the special case to visit you parents. You can buy some food and come without invitation or unannounced. Believe me, you mother will appreciate this.
10) Ring your mother up regularly. Find time to call and to ask how your mom is going, ask if she need something, how is her health. You can also tell your news. Your mother is always interested in your life but very often children forget about it.
11) From time to time ask your mother for a help. You can ask her to be with your children or to go for a walk with them. Grannies are always happy to see their grandchildren. You mother will be busy, helping you and she will feel that you still need her.
I will be happy if after reading this essay about mother you will make the right conclusions and will always not only admire, but appreciate your mother. And of course, don’t forget about our essay writing service for cheap .

Mother and Father Roles in Family
Introduction, comparison of roles played by parents, works cited.
A father is the male parent while mother is the female parent. Parents have a role to play in bringing up their children whether they are biological parents or not. They have a role in development of personality of their children. The conventional roles duty of every parent has been to raise children from all perspectives be it financially, or emotionally among other aspects of growth.
However, in contemporary times, distinguishing parental roles based on gender is difficult given that mothers are getting into employment to provide for their families while fathers are getting more involved in childcare for the benefit of the family. Recently there has been a call to introduce paternity leave to allow fathers to spend more time with their families. These recent developments notwithstanding, some roles fit women perfectly while others are meant for fathers.
Mothers’ roles start immediately after birth. Mothers prepare food for their families, clean the house, clothes, utensils among others hence ensures the biological needs of their children are available.
They also teach their children to differentiate between wrong and right and by so doing, they ensure the kids are healthy and have respect for themselves and others. Mothers act as role models and teach their children especially girls on their roles when in their marital homes incase they get married. When girls reach adolescent stage, it is the mother’s role to teach them on sex education and body changes.
On the other hand, fathers are the natural protectors and providers in a family. Most children look up to their fathers for provision and in them, children see role models. Consequently, a child’s respect for self and others hinges mainly on what the father portrays in day-to-day life.
Moreover, through fathers, children know their sexuality and research shows that involvement of fathers in a child’s upbringing creates a bearing sexual identity whether in girls or in boys (Eusina 59). Therefore, the activity of the fathers determines the level of maleness of his sons as well as the femaleness of his daughters. The two are directly proportional. Traditionally, the role of a father is to protect his family and provide an optimal living environment.
Despite the fact that fathers and mothers have different roles to play in a family, some roles transcend gender differences and call for involvement of the both sexes. For instance, education matters call for participation of both mothers and fathers for home is the first school for any child.
Parents teach their children core values of life including masculinity and femininity integrating them in the society. Parents direct, guide, and assist their children to ensure personal development and growth especially in the religious matters and in education (Penfield 205). They also support and motivate their children to achieve personal goals in life or incase of a tragic situation in life. Parents also help their children to develop social and emotional skills.
Parents have different and similar roles to perform in the family. Incase one of them does not perform his or her role; the effects are seen especially in their children. Parents have either genetic roles or basic traditional roles to play within the family establishment. Nevertheless, with the changing times, parental roles are becoming reversed by the day. Single motherhood places the mother in the shoes of a father and even fathers are assuming motherly roles in a bid to keep the family unit intact.

Roles within the Family

The primary roles within the family
Among the family roles, the most basic and decisive role is the conjugal role. It’s also the one that can become very confusing over time. It’s made up of the couple in question and consists of the set of spaces without kids, such as sexuality, family decisions, the emotional connection between partners, etc.
Then, you have the maternal and paternal roles. The definition of these roles depends a lot on the cultural context, but there are some common elements that you see in practically every culture:
- The maternal role is fundamentally emotional . Its function is to provide protection and support to the child.
- The paternal role, on the other hand, is in the middle of the mother-child. It expands the limits of the mother-child dyad and marks the boundaries of what is allowed.
The other roles within the family are the sibling role and the child role. The first is between brothers and sisters and serves the purpose of establishing the foundation for a cooperative relationship between peers. The second is the bond that children have with their parents. It has to do with respect for hierarchies and internalization of the meaning of authority.
Problems with the conjugal role
What we’ve described up until now is the theoretical framework of family roles. However, they don’t always look like this in real life. If the parents break down their role and allow their children to come into their sphere, the consequences can be serious.
In general, children who witness conflicts between their parents feel guilty and anxious. The seriousness of the consequences for the children depends on the intensity of the conflicts. In all cases, one or both parents will lose part of their authority during these conflicts.
It’s not good for children to see their parents expressing themselves sexually either. This can be very confusing for them. Depending on how old the children are and how much information they have, it could scare them, arouse them, or upset them. The consequences are varied, but they generally interfere with normal development.
The maternal and paternal roles
Parents play the most important role within the family unit. First, as the couple, and then as the mother and father. All of these roles are related to each other. The ideal maternal role is the “nourishing mother” who takes care of her child and offers tenderness, physical affection, and emotional support.
Some women, however, turn their children into their sole objects of love. They disregard or disparage the father and create possessive and overprotective bonds with their children. There are also absent mothers who won’t create any bonds at all with their children. In either case, the emotional effects are similarly devastating.
The father figure or paternal role usually establishes the guidelines for acceptable behavior. The father is the third figure who regulates the symbiosis between mother and child. He “saves” the child from being exclusively confined to the maternal universe.
These days, society tends to undervalue the word “father” and the paternal role. An absent father or a father who exercises his role in a weak way will have a hard time defining boundaries with his child. Children of these types of fathers don’t usually know what their limits are.

A family atmosphere results from the intereaction between members of the family. Read on to see how it influences children's upbringing!

The Unique Role of the Mother Essay
Boys and girls munro.
Alice Munro developed the theme “Be yourself, and do not let others change that” in her short story, “Boys and Girls” with the use of characters and the setting. At the beginning, the narrator sees herself as a daddy’s girl who enjoys helping out on the farm, but as the story continues she is shaped into a character more like her mother. Together, Munro’s characters and the setting of the story influence the theme in a variety of ways.

Mr. And Mrs. Pontellier's Relationships In The Awakening
My ideal view of a “mother-woman” is a woman who could equally take care of her children, as well as independently doing things on her own. For example, working or things of that nature. More than anything, independence is a very large trait in this “mother-woman”. This is because parenting is a two person job, caretaking should not be just the woman’s job, it is a team responsibility between both
The Mother by Gwendolyn Brooks Essay
In a world in which abortion is considered either a woman's right or a sin against God, the poem "The Mother" by Gwendolyn Brooks gives a voice to a mother lamenting her aborted children through three stanzas in which a warning is given to mothers, an admission of guilt is made, and an apology to the dead is given. The poet-speaker, the mother, as part of her memory addresses the children that she "got that [she] did not get" (2). The shift in voice from stanza to stanza allows Brooks to capture the grief associated with an abortion by not condemning her actions, nor excusing them; she merely grieves for what might have been. The narrator's longing and regret over the children she will never have is highlighted by the change in tone

Girl By Jamaica Kincaid Analysis
For centuries, women have had the role of being the perfect and typical house wife; needs to stay home and watch the children, cook for husbands, tend to the laundry and chores around the house. In her short story “Girl”, Jamaica Kincaid provides a long one sentence short story about a mother giving specific instructions to her daughter but with one question towards the end, with the daughter’s mother telling her daughter if she had done all the instructions to become a so called “perfect” woman, every man would want her. Kincaid’s structuring in “Girl,” captures a demanding and commanding tone. This short story relates to feminist perspectives. The mother expects a great deal from her daughter to have a certain potential and she does not hesitate to let her daughter understand that. As a matter of fact, the story is about two pages long, made into one long sentence - almost the whole time the mother is giving her daughter directions to follow - conveys a message to the reader that the mother demands and expects great potential in her daughter. The daughter is forced to listen and learn from what her mother is telling her to do to become the perfect housewife. Throughout the story, Kincaid uses the symbols of the house and clothing, benna and food to represent the meanings of becoming a young girl to a woman and being treated like one in society. Women are portrayed to appeal to a man to become the ideal woman in society, while men can do anything they please.
"Mother to Son" Analysis Essay
The speaker of the poem “Mother to Son,” by Langston Hughes is a mother who is giving advice to her son. Her life has been difficult and hard at times. As readers, we know this because the speaker talks about how life is a staircase and her staircase has had “tacks and splinters in it” (line 3-4). This means that her life has not been perfect and she had many challenges to deal with. Perhaps she was born into poverty, because the images in her poem reveal a ragged, old staircase, like you might find in a decrepit, old building. Further, the speaker’s accent reveals that the speaker was not well-educated when she was younger, such as when she says “I'se been a-climbin' on” (line 9) which is not proper English. Since

I Stand Here Ironing By Tillie Olsen
“I Stand Here Ironing” written by Tillie Olsen is a short story that reflects on the struggles of a single mother who looks back on the past and tries to assess the effect her decisions and circumstances had on her young daughter, Emily. “This story is part of the awarding-winning collection, Tell Me A Riddle, which was first published in 1961” (Wolfe). “This story is considered the most autobiographical of Olsen’s literary works (Piedmont-Marton). The title of the story is taken from the stories opening line, “I stand here ironing, and what you asked me moves tormented back and forth with the iron” (Bauer, Olsen). The story is one of the best examples in literature, and certainly one of the first, to offer readers a glimpse into the lives of the working-class women and families from a woman’s perspective. (Piedmont-Marton) This story “illustrates Olsen’s particular concern with the difficulties faced by women”. (Wolfe) As the story unfolds, Olsen uses distinct character traits, imagery, tone, and style to create a dramatic sense of the mother’s internal debate of her own feelings.
